When the rivers of the world ran dry
And the ozone layer unlocked its grip upon the planet
We had to find new ways to survive
Under the perpetual hellfire of the blazing sun
Trapped in the dead desert of the badlands
That were once to our forefathers
The divine depths of the cold, dark oceans

Not to get all thinky on what is obviously a brilliant piece of art, but ... where would the water go? If its not on the earth, it would be as clouds, and the world would be dark. If it was in the ground, well, it would be a very damp desert...

Again..WOW! Is that pumpjack for water or oil? Very soylent greenish in your thoughts...What a very prophetic movie that has become. I remember it scaring the crap out of me way back when and even more so now...

The water could easily be underground, the sea level could have fallen, or the CO2 level of the planet could have risen, evaporating the water and placing it high up in the atmospere, where it would remain, trapping more heat and siphoning off into space. Unbelievable art. I love how a civilization was built in the shadow of a beached battleship. Could the battleship be a former shipwreck? The pumpjack could be for bringing up water from underground, where it drained long ago.
