A sculpture of a dragon made from 3mm galvanised steel wire and soldered together. The eyes are marbles. It was originally going to be about a foot long but I got a bit carried away and from nose to tail is now about a meter. By my calculations there is about 17m of wire in it somewhere. Here are a few photos but if you're interested there are more at www.angelfire.com/weird/elpasso/images/wiredragon/dragon.html.

Wow, I am REALLY impressed with what you've done here. How very creative! You've given the creature a genuine look of dynamic action. Great work!

:-) Alex Pass replies: "I impressed myself really. It turned out much better than I had planned (and much bigger). I wanted to try and get some movement into it which is why one of the front legs is off the ground - it also made it easier to ballance without rocking on 3 points rather than 4."

:-) Alex Pass replies: "I would love to sell it to you or anyone else but unfortunately because of it's large size the only room I had for it was on the top shelf in my room about 10ft up and it fell off and got a bit mangled. I'll have to put it back together again some day 8"

Nice work, I love working with metals and wire. I LOVE working with my hands, making stuff is a passion for me. Anyway, have you ever thought of taking a fine metal working class, ya know for making jewelry and such? It would be a great way to master this type of artwork. Not enough people do it as is.

:-) Alex Pass replies: "It would be a cool thing to do but I'm not sure where I could do it and I've already got loads of university coursework. Maybe after I finish uni it would be something I could do. Cheers for the idea."

Oooh, now this is different! I like the way the face looks in the top left image in the montage -- there is something sinister in the way the face looks. Maybe it is the V-shapes, maybe they make it look like it is scowling, or focusing on its prey, or something. I think the suggestions of muscles, especially around the shoulders also works well. And the hoops in the neck are suggestive of either vertebrae or of the big, plate-like scales that dragons are often depicted as having on the underside. Oh, and I like the little nubs of teeth, too.

:-) Alex Pass replies: "Thanks, I'm glad you noticed all those things like the neck and stuff cos that was what I was aiming for. I wasn't keen on the teeth myself, a bit too small, but I'm glad you like them."

i love your dragon. I live in south Africa and in this country there are a lot of artist on the side of the road that make wire things, eg spiders, frogs, dragonflyes, ect...
I have been trying to tel them what a dragon looks like but most have never seen a dragon and it is a bit difficult with a pic. your wire dragon is perfect for me to show for an idea.
when it is done i will send you a pick of it
thanks
kim

:-) Alex Pass replies: "Wow! That would be sweet! I would love to see a photo if someone makes one."

That dragon is awsome. Would you mind if I used your picture as a diagram to make my own?
What a GREAT idea.

:-) Alex Pass replies: "Yeah sure, sorry for not replying sooner."

I really love your wire dragon. It is about the only thing i can find that is directly related to my project, I am going to do a dragon candle holder with fine coloured wire using different techniques like weaving wire and knitting it. Would it be ok if i used you and ur dragon for contextual reference in my research book?! Pleeeease!!

:-) Alex Pass replies: "Of course you can refer to my dragon in your research. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. When you're candle holder is finished I'd love to see a picture."
