This was one of two for a mom and her son. ^_^ Her son’s gryphon is the red fox gryphon. This one was more of a challenge because she wanted a black leopard and I couldn’t find fabric that had that pretty hint of spots that live black leopards have when you see them from the right angle. The lady agreed that painting spots would be the way to go, so I tried matte black fabric paint on shiny black fur, but the spots didn’t show up, so a light colored outlining of the spots was requested. I spent at least one full day on the spots alone, but I like how it turned out. ^_^ Oh, if any one’s curious about trying this, I used diluted fabric paint (one drop of black, a teaspoon or so of white and enough water to make it a little runny.) and I made a stencil out of contact paper for the spots, brushed the black paint in with a tooth brush, and a tooth pick to jab in the light grey in an attempt to make it look like it grew that way. I hope the lady liked how it turned out. 0.0

I ADORE the black leopard spots. They’re so beautiful and it looks just right- just like a real leopard. I love how the spots are all over the wings and everything! And the tail is adorable... don’t ask... Tails are an important part. If that lady didn’t like it she must be absolutely mad.

These things rock! I’m going to make one that looks like a tabby cat/redtail hawk! Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes I have read the black gryhon. That series rocks! Have you read anything else by Mercedes Lackey?

The message above was in response to a comment on Page 2, if anyone’s confused.

This is gorgeous! The spots turned out beautifully. To Lenariel: I make plushies, and all I can suggest is to get good reference and a good pattern.

To Crystal: Have you ever heard the term ’hobby?’
