Sterling ( he *does* have a silver sheen in his hair in the original..dumb scanner) is the only person his friend Davin has to turn to. Davin has a tendency to get in trouble...drinking,substance abuse,fights/abuse ...he's really quite a jerk to tell the truth, and Sterling knows this. Yet, he can't turn away from his needy friend,(who lately has been chased by a group of magic-throwing thugs for a 'loan'). Sterling cares for his friend, probably more than he should, but Davin's normally too out of it to realize...
