Media: Watercolour. Frames made in Photoshop.

New painting painted just a few weeks ago. I wanted to step out from my reqular style a bit so I tried in this painting make the fairy and the branch look as real as I could draw and paint them. I also wanted to try play with the picture framing a bit.

To get the leaves look as real as possible I used photos and real life reference of autumn leaves and painted a small birch branch study picture to try out different colour combinations and techniques of painting autumn leaves. I fell I learned a lot from it and I hope my effort shows in the picture too.

This is so beautiful. I’ve got to admit, at first, I couldn’t see the fairy, and thought ’This isn’t fantasy!’ But then, hey, fairies aren’t supposed to be all shiny and conspicuous, are they?

:-) Minna Turunen replies: "True, some of them aren’t as brightly coloured as the others. 1
Don’t worry. You aren’t the only one. When I uploaded this to my DA gallery, some people said too that the fairy blended so well to the picture that they didn’t notice it at first."

I usually make my fairies really bright coloured. It was really fun to use earthy colours instead. 1"

This is really cool. I’m loving how the fairy blends in with the autumn leaves. Sometimes I think one reason most people don’t see them if they’re not looking, is that they change colors with the seasons to camouflage them better. But that’s just me.

I usually draw and paint lively bright colored fairies. It was really fun to paint something different for a change. Earthy colored fairies have a more "realistic feel" somehow.
Maybe there are many different types of fairies 1"

This is one of my favorites ^_^ I love autumn, so the colors are beautiful, and the fairy’s pose is very mysterious and reflective.... I always love paintings that break the frame barrier, and this was an excellent way to do it! Just wonderful.

:-) Minna Turunen replies: "aww… Thank you so much!!
I studied autumn leaves and their colours a lot for this picture and used several techniques that I had not tried out earlier. I’m really happy that you like it.

Sorry for not answering earlier. I have not been very active here on Elfwood for a long time.
