This is a poem I wrote after I was inspired by the amazing Jay W. B. Hildybrant. Please see his picture of the same name HERE. Thanks for the inspiration, Jay!!!

Updated: October 18th: A newer version that I think is much better!

When walking through a forest
a young child lost his way,
and within the haunted wood
the boy did not wish to stay.
Terror had begun to settle in
when the child heard a raven,
and bewildered he was led
to a wizard's secret haven.
Amazed, he looked around
and saw a splendid forest glade,
and within the center of it all
a wizard stood; he bade.
The little boy advanced,
even though he shook with fear
but the wizard only smiled
and stroked his ancient beard.
The wizard began to speak
while clutching to his staff,
"I will light the way, my son.
just stay along the path.
But before you go, hear my words,
for you came here by my magic.
Mankind is forgetting me
and that, you see, is tragic.
I am what dreams are made of;
fantasy, love and lore,
and if mankind forgets me
then I shall be no more."
Then the wizard lifted his arm
and to the sky did fly his bird.
As magic erupted from his fingers,
he whispered his final words:
"Now go and never forget
that seeing is believing.
Magic is everywhere, its just that
appearances can be deceiving."

It made Jay smile, and I don't blame him, it is beautiful and reflects his painting well. But it made me cry. So sad for magic to be lost to so many...Beautiful words, that will last forever... Aww, don't be sad. Think about it like this: magic isn't disappearing, people are just forgetting about it. Magic is all around us, as long as remember to look through children's eyes. 2

Pretty cool poem, and I love the story it tells. Wizards being forgotten, magic lost...sad thing it is. The rhythm is pretty bouncy, rather like a nursery rhyme, kinda...Actually I don't know if I mean that, but I do mean that it's a nice poem. -KThanks, I appreciate all of your comments.

Bravo, Amber! This reads much smoother than before - I'm not sure what you changed, but it is now better than what I remember of your previous version... I still really like the last lines - it is refreshing to read a poem that has a point to make... Thanks James. I took your advice into consideration and got rid of like four of five 'dids'. 2 Im pleased you liked it!

Wow, this is really great. A lot of times in the poems I read the ryming isn't so good but the words you used were wonderful. Also you had such a great idea. I am too lazy to read really long stories on elfwood so I am glad I went to this. Do you own any horses, I noticed a lot of the artists you have in your bio draw horses. I love horses, but unfortunately I neither own nor ride. It is perhaps one of my bigger regrets. Thanks for the comment!

To tell you the truth I have never been really interested in horses before, probably 'cause my mom owns/ed a bunch and has always loved them. They have always been around so I havn't had much interest. But before you decide to hate me... this yer I got my own horse and I just loove her. I am accually quite interested in horses now like zillions of other peeople I know. It's a strange facination that women have with horses. I LOVE them! They are just so... incredible. I can't even begin to descibe why I love them so much. LOL Thanks again for your comment.

Very nice! good job! i love how the wizard tells what magic is. I am really fond of this poem. Truely, I am. For some reason, I just ... really like it. I think it suits the picture I wrote it for perfectly, but then, I am a little biased.

A wonderful idea - writing about vanishing magic. I like this poem very much. The rhythm is smooth, story-like and has a dreamy quality. Very well done. Thanks!

~ ...*its* just that appearances can be deceiving. That's my weakness. When I write, I don't do it to stanza or syllables. I just write the poem and put it up. I need to learn to be more... clinical. Thanks for the critique.

Really good poem. I wish you wrote more often.
love allen. Aww, thank-you baby. I am going to try to get back into the swing of writing. I have the urge. Much love!
