Written at 11:00 pm on Friday January 6th, 2006. My first poem of the year! And admittedly a rather half-arsed attempt at poetry...so far the two reviews have been good ones, but who knows what the Elfwood populace will decide?

   Listen…

There is nothing here now.

What once was lush and green has met the fury of the plow.

   Listen…

Can you hear the people sing?

Now their voices come in screams.

   Listen!

Aid to be given, aid to be lost.

Aid to be desired at any cost.

   Listen!

Keep to the shadows, he fears the light.

Let your courage be the people’s plight.

   Silent…

No one can stress enough,

How insane this is, how impossibly tough.

   Silent!

Never let him hear

The voices he coaches to fear are now turning to prayer.

   Move…

Swiftly may your feet to fly

Along the pathways beneath the crimson sky.

   Move!

Go before they see!

By shadow is your roadway, your only chance is to deceive.

   Farewell…

You’ll never make it alive.

His minions swarm like ants, soldiers for the hive.

   Farewell!

The walls are thick with bones and his temple with cold malice.

Above the sluggish Styx…lies Beelzebub’s palace.
