This is another model of a nightmare, the best of the imaginary terror horses. You can observe the distinct traits: the hardened, patterned skin and the fire instead of hair. The difference is that this is more of a reptile than a horse (notice tail and claws) – but a nightmare type still.
I don’t usually draw horns because I don’t like them, but this picture needed more spikes and I think it ended up pretty good.
As for the inspiration… it might be obvious for some of you.
I have always been a fan of the Heroes of Might and Magic computer game series (1-5, can’t wait for the sixth!!) and I admit that many terror and nightmare ideas came from there (as well as few other creatures); the fantasy games are in general a constant source of inspiration for me, but I try never to remain to simple fan art because I can’t draw after model very well and I always end up adding original things. What I want to add is that ever since Heroes 5 came out I liked the idea of the upside down turned wing for the fiery nation. I also started to draw them on some fire-associated beings.
