Welcome to a new series of Science Fiction reptiles I have drawn. I erased the former one which was showing a way of evolution for this race, from flesh egg / cocoon to mature individual. Now I’m showing you some types of mature individuals, finally all drawn and ordered. :)
I must admit from the start that I had sources of inspiration… the big boom came after I saw the movie Avatar, of course, which inspired me to do the light flyers, and from here the whole idea sprang because I wanted for a long time to draw such a nation of reptiles with walking and flying units and both light and heavy. Other inspirations are computer games, mostly Starcraft 1 and 2, I guess. However, the combinations and details are original.
This particular picture shows you a “light walker” reptile. It has a common basic model - you should see the other 2 blue models for an idea about their movement style. Here you can observe how they can stand on their blades if the ground allows it and they can be very fast running on their blades. And deadly, too.
Not that this idea wouldn’t have worked for a fantasy scenario, but I usually integrate this reptiles to SciFi stories because a mounted futuristic warrior would look better on them.
There are three types of individuals in this nation: walkers, flyers and mixt type. All of them have light and heavy units.
The basic body has mainly three sets of front limbs: either many hands, or hands and blades or hands and wings, depending on the type. You can look for three pairs of limbs – you will usually find a small pair of hands for common use and then wings or blade weaponry. The body is protected by an organic armor made from solid plaques that combine like a puzzle and remain flexible to allow swift movement. They have limited mental powers, as shown by their weird “hairs”: fleshy strings that can carry electricity.
> The walkers are good at running, jumping and even swimming. The light walkers can jump very high and move very fast. They have a pair of small hands, a pair of bigger solid/support hands and a pair of blades. The heavy walkers are dangerous siege units, but can also be used to transport tons of things. They have many pairs of limbs: small hands, blades for the front side, support hands in the middle and back legs in the back. They also have 3 pairs of thin, support legs for standing still and only little movement.
>> The flyers can fly at extraordinary speeds and usually rule the air. The light flyers move with astonishing precision, swiftness and velocity. They have small hands, big support hands and a pair of wings. The heavy flyers are dangerous siege units from above and they can carry with their large wings and heavy legs a lot more than you can think possible. Their spit is deadly venom for creature or acid in some cases for buildings. They have small hands and a pair of huge wings in front and a pair of strong legs and blades in the back.
>>> The mixt type does not excel at either running or flying, but they can do both and are, thus, better at adapting in various circumstances. The light mixt type is a unit built for many things, well round-up, than can fly reasonably good and can run like a horse or like a feline due to flexible bones and is excellent for various styles of ridding. It has 4 strong legs and a pair of double wings – one smaller, encased in the other. The heavy mixt type does not look like is able to fly at first, but he still manages to lift up for short periods of time. It is a more efficient tanking creature, however, and unfortunately does not mix well with carrying other stuff due to already heavy weight on it. It has small hands and strong hands, plus wings and blades for the entire front to middle area and merely support legs for the back.
