The spectral cavalry was as unexistent as the rainy field's economy...

...or so they thought, until...

More about the specter nature can be found in teh first picture of the series.

The idea started from a "popular proverb" of my fictionary realms for something unexistant. They would compare something unreal (even in their unreal/imaginary realms, heh... :D ) with teh so called spectral cavalry or the economy in the settlements of the rainy fields. Eventually, this scheme could be a great plot in some stories and I use it as a rather fun subject than something serious. Specters were far too bright beings not to use the opportunity (even in their rather material-poor situation) and the inhabitants of the rainy fields were not any lower...

I actually like this since specters were known to be so strong and almost invincible that they didn't need to use horses (or more powerful units than floating infantry... :) ) and as for the economy, the inhabitants in the rainy field were so poor that trading or whatever form of economics was too far away. But that was only the official fact, anyways...

... for they also knew that specters had horses. And they rode very well, especially when standing, with their great great double sword (taller than jus ta man). The spectral cavalry was the secret cherry on the top. As for the other, well... though any form of money was insignificat, that didn't mean that they did not know how to make bussiness...

But coming back to the spectral cavalier, I know its form is very unpractical (to say so) in fights. Maybe he was just good looking to appear on the battlefield, since all the flows could be a pain and such a great weapon was hard to manage and then standing still, not to mention the horse's long hair and frustration... Maybe he was not a great rider at all. Or maybe... maybe not?

Related to the other "spectral" pictures.

About the picture: large watercolor painting. Used only green, blue, greenish-blue (plus black and white shades) and yellow for the mask (only). The picture was larger than a normal scaner, so I scanned it in three parts and then placed them togheter with Paint. I haven't manage to erase completely the second line due to light shades, but I hope that isn't such a great problem. The horse could have used a better expresion, but I like the clothes (the torn mantle) and the blade most of all. The sun was blue in Spectral realm, as the only color besides the ones named above was the golden-yellow of the king's mask (you may have noticed that in all the three "spectral" pictures the golden-masked specter appears only, well, it was the king and it is the most interesting to do, after all, since all the specters were dressed in the same manner). The rider stand directly on the horses back, though you can see (hanging around the horse's shoulders) some black things that function as some sort of mobile "pedals" and chains for when the horse is rapidly moving, so the rider can balance accordingly. Yet another of my less practical ideas that work in fiction.

Shweet. And who cares if its impractical? ^^

:-) Anca Raluca Sandu replies: "Exactly my thoughts 2. I simply like the flowing aspects and the majority of large clothing (this is just an example). The horse’s hair is as long only to provide more to the windy, flowing, distance, rather cold, whatever-you-wish-but-in-theme effect.... hehe... 1"

Thats pretty cool. What did you do this one with it looks like pastels but you usualy do your pics with photoshop of some sort.

:-) Anca Raluca Sandu replies: "Up to this date I couldn’t get a working photoshop on my computer, so I don’t use photoshop. I use Artweaver, which is moderately complex, and currently suits all my drawing needs. However, this time I only used some distortion (which looks like blurr effect in some places) to smooth or blend some colors. All things shiny, the blue sun and some other minor color spots were added as well.

However, the original of this picture is in watercolor (and on a very large paper, a little bigger than A3) , so it might resemble pastel because the basic brush can be still largely seen. It was scanned in three parts and combined afterwards (couldn’t get rid completely of that shiny middle line).

I rarely draw in watercolor, but I decided that now and then I should do some very large paintings like this one in watercolor. They have a complex subject, adapted to my story ideas and I could go on talking about them a long time! There are only a few other such paintings in my gallery. I plan to do more but I don’t know exactly when...

But I do have some more specter things in my new series that’ll be up in few weeks. Despite the fact I wanted to stop drawing so many of them..."
