Forgotten
I was her best friend. She used to be so full of life, her personality was almost as loud as her voice. As the biggest gossip and party-girl in school, she shouldn’t be so easy to forget.
I suppose it all started a few weeks before graduation. Or, was it months? Anyways, at first she stopped talking during class, something the teachers enjoyed, I’m sure. Then she stopped laughing. I was also concerned about the fact that everything about her, even her pitch-black hair, was turning pale. She seemed to grow more pastel, and more quiet, every day.
By the last day of school, her hair was white, and she was silent. Finally, graduation came, I was valedictorian, and I was so nervous I pulled on my new pink crystal studs until my ears hurt. It wasn’t until after the ceremony that I realized that she wasn’t there. Naturally, I was curious as to what kept her away from her own High School graduation, or, as she often put it, the entrance to the adult world. But when her mother answered the door she said she didn’t have a daughter. Everyone at the graduation didn’t remember her either, it was as though she never existed. Even her photo in the yearbook was almost transparent.
I don’t hear from her anymore, nor do I know what happened to her. But, I’ll never forget—who were we talking about again?
