Andrea Miller Anderson

Andrea is a professional fantasy artist/illustrator and designer who has enjoyed fantasy art since childhood.

After spending several years as an advertising creative and graphic designer, I finally moved into the realms of fantasy art a couple of years ago. While I work as freelance fantasy artist, I also work on my own art projects, some of which you'll see here. I still take on occasional graphic and/or web design projects in my spare time, but my creative focus is now mostly on my art work.

My fantasy art/illustration work, which often leans toward the surreal and majestic, is influenced by a combination of Chinese Brush Painting techniques, western painting methods and several years in graphic design. I find inspiration in many things, including nature and wildlife, mythology and folklore, my children, and a notably vivid imagination. I've also been influenced by various pre-Ralphite, surrealist, impressionist and art noveau artists, as well as other fantasy artists. My favorites include John Anster Fitzgerald, Alphonse Mucha, Brian Froud, Alan Lee, & Daniel Merriam.

I enjoy working in a variety of traditional media, including: graphite, pen & ink, Chinese paints & inks, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, caseins, and occasionally airbrush and pastels. With my design background, I'm also naturally drawn to digital media using a Wacom digital graphics tablet and programs such as Freehand, Photoshop and Painter. Which medium I chose to work on is directed by the feeling I wish to convey, rather than by the medium iteslf.

I also work periodically in 3d art, employing sculpture, carving and pyrography techniques utilizing a variety of materials. If I'm working with my hands, I'm generally happy.

On a personal note, I'm hoping to start my Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in the Fall of 2004. Rest assured that while I may be somewhat busy with school, family and other commitments, I will always make time for my art! Wish me luck!

I am available for freelance art projects/commissions, but please do not contact me with requests for free art. I simply don't have the time, and I do make a living at my art. To inquire about a possible commission, please contact me directly. Be sure to include your contact information and a few details about the project.
