A young elf waits patiently to spear a fish in the misty depths of an ancient forest.

This picture was originally meant to be a landscape and nothing more. I wanted to try a picture using light pastel colours, but when it was finished it seemed a too lifeless... After looking at it for a few days i added the elf wading through the water. I've never done a character in colour before so it was an interesting challange.

(Painted using PSP and graphics tablet. No planning was done on the background, but i had to sketch the character before adding it. I then painted colour over the top of the sketch and blended it all into the background.)

15 Jan 2003	Kendra Tucker	Loading... does first comment dance It's gorgeous!! It's so soft and light and feathery!! I love the background, the depth, and the boughs of the willows! I agree though, it's more compelling with a character in it, though with the smaller size of the figure the scenery becomes equally important. It's very, very cool. Great job! I can't wait to see more!! Andy J Bradley replies: "Thx! One of the thoughts i had when i finished this without adding the elf was; i hadn't been careful enough with the details in the leaves of the willows, so adding the character was a good desctraction and leads the eye away from my nasty mistakes in the background. Having said that though, i'm very glad i finally painted a character in colour because now i'm going to try more of the same, and hopefully do a better job next time... : )"
18 Jan 2003	Graham	Loading... This picture is great, as are all your pictures - well done!! The practicalities of spear fishing may require a surprise element, and would perhaps need an over arm motion to achieve that. After having said that, you have this terrific ability to 'draw me in' to the fantasy. Keep up the good work! Andy J Bradley replies: "I imagined that like a cat he is waiting perfectly still, ready pounce at the last instant with great speed. If you look at his expression i tried to show he was looking at something further out in the water, and not yet close enough to catch..."
19 Feb 2003	Miriam F. Cole	Loading... I love the soft mist feel to this! I liked the first one, without the elfboy but I really love this one!!!! Nice artwork.
