"Cloak of thorns" by Anna Casey

	This girl has had a lot of pain in her life, so she has woven herself some protection against others - a cloak of thorns. Trouble is, the thorns also face inwards, and she is always lonely. For the moment however, she is unwilling to give up her protection against the world.

You really have some wonderful characters here, and I can see you creating a truly lovely picture book for children (and adults!) I wonder if she gets the point of her attempt to repell others? She hurts herself more than she does those trying to reach her. Anna Casey replies: "Yes, her cloak protects her from hurt, or so she believes, like those hedgehog people we meet who are all prickles and barbs, but long to take the chance to let down the barriers enough to love again, if they can only dare to trust someone..."
