"And, saying so, he spurred his horse Rozinante, without taking heed to his squire Sancho’s cries, advertising him how they were doubtless windmills that he did assault, and no giants; but he went so fully persuaded that they were giants as he neither heard his squire’s outcries, nor did discern what they were, although he drew very near to them, but rather said, so loud as he could, ‘Fly not, ye cowards and vile creatures! for it is only one knight that assaults you.’"

                                                                                                                             ~ Don Quixote, Miguel Cervantes

I had been listening to Man of La Mancha for a while, and this was the result.  Actually drew this while watching the Anna Nicole Smith estate hearings, I'm not sure how that influenced it, but somehow it seemed appropriate.  Anyway, Don Quixote is off on another one of his grand adventures.  On a random note, anyone remember an old cartoon by the name of Don Coyote?  Just wondering :)

Drawn in pencil, scanned and clouds added in Photoshop. (2007)

I’m perhaps wrong, but I think that it is the first illustration of Don Quixote in the Woods. That’s great: I didn’t know that this story was known in the States! Great illustration, too: I love how you gave a giant look to the mill.

And yes, the story’s very well known in the U.S., it’s considered a classic, and the musical (Man of La Mancha) is also very well known 1 Not to mention a random old cartoon called "Don Coyote" very loosely but cutely based on the original classic tale 1"

I like that you’ve made the windmill into a man for Quixote 1
