Yeah, I hate the overblown, pathos-evoking scenes as much as you do, but here we are:)) ...After a few years after Zmeifen had chased him away, Rhianel had returned to the castle to rescue his soulmate from the web of the power-lust nightmare Zmei had been into lately (a classical mental malady of every great Dark Wizard it seems to be, so my poor mage simply must get it too:) A silent scene of first seeing each other after a long while: both are in shock, Rhianel is horrified by how old and mad Zmei looks now, he is full of sympathy and compassion; while Zmei is extremely surprised to see a traveling minstrel, quite capable to stand on his own, instead of his refined pet. Yeah, a freakin' ' single ray of light in the realm of darkness', but I'd warned ya! :P
