Here's an updated Freya ... hope everyone likes it!!! Freya was the daughter of the Vanir gods Niord & Nerthus, her twin brother was the god Frey, her husband was Od and her two daughters were Hnoss and Gersimi (Jewels and Treasure). Freya was the norse goddess of beauty, physical love, sidhr magic and she was also known as Queen of the Valkyries. She would sometime lead the Valkyries to battle/collect the souls of fallen warriors and it is said that she takes half of the fallen warriors (along with their wives and/or lovers) with her to Folkvang. In Folkvang, there is plenty of food and mead, the walls and floors are covered with thick tapestries and pillows, the warm glow of fireplaces light up every room and the smell of perfume and the sound of love music fills the air. In this composition, I originally planned on showing Freya in her chariot being pulled by her two white cats and have her cloak of falcon feathers flowing behind her. But, the cloak kept coming out so BLAH! I thought to myself: 'Why can't this cloak take the shape of falcon wings?' So here it is! After that, I thought that the cart and her cats would have been too much. I know that Freya is supposed to be a blonde haired/blue eyed beauty, but I kind of like her as a redhead. Around her neck (you probably can't see it, since I had to reduce the pic size for Elfwood) is her famous Brisingamen Necklace, forged with stars by four dwarfs. Just like my other pieces, after I drew this picture, I scanned it, outlined/colored it in Illustrator, and did extra stuff in Photoshop and Painter.

Really think that the name of her daughet was "Gersemi" not "Gersimi" but really like the cloak 12 and the red haired thing. Always pictured her blond and blue eyed myself, but hey, nothing is holy 10

I always thought Freya was a stawberry-blond, not a pure blond and I think she should be protrayed as "tough" looking, but extremely beautiful.

sorry, gotta add something to the last post. Freya ( in my opinion) should look tough because in norse myths there are a bunch of warriers and all norse gods have some connection to violence.

I happen to love how you’ve portrayed Freya. I think you’ve reached the right balance between showing her fierce side as Queen of the Valkyries and her seductive side as Goddess of Love and Beauty, along with her status as Mistress of Magic. I also love that you’ve made her a red-head; I always thought with the way she’s described in Norse myths, making her a strawberry blond worked. 1 You think you could do Sif, Thor’s wife, next?
