"Unicorn Herd" by T A O Crauford

This is how I do unicorns. Big, burly and ill-tempered. Also, these guys are marsupials.

I based them off of a Pleistocene mammal known as an elasmotherium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elasmotherium

This is the daddy of one of my shape-shifting characters, and his herd. He's blind in his left eye. I don't know how. It's not really important. He and his entire herd end up getting slaughtered anyway due to human fear. Well, one of the foals' survives.

But look! You can see one of the mares' pouches! It's under her vulva. It faces backwards so that the foal doesn't fall out when running. And it has a special, ring-like muscle that closes it (similar to the water opossum). All of these mares have a foal (which I do believe is actually called a joey, since they are marsupials).

I plan on coloring these beasties someday.
