This Fuzzy little guy has been invading alot of my drawings, lately. He looks misproportionate, but he's just adapted for the snow. He's got a compact body and a short, sleek muzzle to conserve heat, elongated legs to help him maneuver better in deep snow, enlarged ears to help him locate mice and other small animals burrowing in the snow (hey, when you live where there's nothing but hundreds of miles of permafrost, being an herbavore ain't gonna help ya much). His wings are there because his feet aren't very well adapted for snow (big furry paws just didn't look right on him) and they help him get out of snow drifts, but they aren't much use for flying. And his tail is all bushy and foxlike to help keep his legs and face warm when he's caught in a storm or curling up for the night.

I LOVE all your work and this is a gorgeous picture! But, if it's adapted to the snow, then it could still have a long snout and body, as creatures that live in cold environments tend to have large, round bodies, with a small surface area: volume ratio to conserve heat. XP that's what happens when I actually revise biology! But you don't have to listen to me, I'm just a fan of long snouts (having an alsation and all)! Love the pose too!

Hey, I love this little guy- he's so cute! The only thing I would have changed to adapt him to the snow might be that his wings are a bit too insect-like, for warmth/in keeping with artic biologies I would have made them feathered, maybe in white and black like a snowy owl or a winter-camoflaged ptarmigan. But I love the unicorn series and I'm looking forward to the next one ^_^.

Animals adapted for the snow have small short ears, large ears give off to much heat. His wings would freeze over and he would not be able to fly, also he would not have the claws, teeth, or agility and build to kill the small animals of the Arctic. Nice pic though.

I’m tired of replying to dumb comments. You people keep trying to equate his anatomy with predetory animals (foxes, bears, cats) His design is based on a PREY animal. Like a Moose. a MOOSE! Or Caribou. Go look at how THOSE have adapted to snow and know what you’re actually talking about before you come leave uninformed coments. After his anatomy being based on prey animals, he is also a unicorn. MY unicorns have very specific anatomical structures and his adaptations are also based on that fact as well. So he is adapted for cold by BOTH real prey animal standards AND my fictional UNICORN standards. And he can’t fly. He never could.
