After seeing Kate's Firebringer tour, I was inspired to portray Aljan and Telkella on the beach. The black stallion Jan has fallen very hard for this lovely rose and black mare. I strongly recommend the books. They are a fascinating read, and the characters are very well developed.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this picture. Jan looks a little bit like a ghost, but that's just the moonlight playing tricks. He also looks a little worried and nervous, but Tek looks quite happy and content laying there in the soft sand next to Jan. Although, her tail does seem to be a little lost in that sand. And, though she is rose colored, the camera flash muted the color a bit, but you can still tell that she is, in fact, pink. I am pleased with how the moonlight on the water turned out. This was fun to do, and there will probably be some more Firebringer art coming in the future. All you Firebringer fans out there, let me know what you think!

It is really nice to see some more art for the Firebringer Trilogy (My bible). The setting is good and I really like the mood in this painting, it captures chapter two of Dark Moon quite well! Both Aljan and Tek looks good with their coloring, the only thing is that maybe they are a little too horselike.. Good job though and I hope to see more of this!

I guess I just love the idea of unicorns in the form of horses, as they just embody power and grace already. I do love the more traditional type, but this is just how I saw them. Great effect with the moon light on the clouds and waves it gives it such a romantic feel... *goes off into own dream world*

Great series, I wish she'd write more.

I like this picture a lot. It's tender but a bit mysterious at the same time. I like the way you rendered the water as well.

That was a great series. There really should be more books out there like those ones. Just great.
Okay, the art. I know what you are saying about the tail. It does look a little odd, but the rest of the picture greatly makes up for it. You did a great justice to Tek and Jan. You can almost see their future with each other just by looking at this one picture.

Hello it's me again! Thanks for the advice on drawing horses I'll probably be putting that to good use in my art classes next school year. I'm so excited!! My first art classes ever! I just hope I get a teacher that can help me with being more flexible and more open minded...I'm afraid to try new things and usually just stick with B and H pencils.
I haven't read the Firebringer Trilogy but your pictures of the characters and the way you and the other writers describe these books has intrigued me!
Oh dear....yet another couple of books to add to my ever growing list. It seems that I always have a big pile of books from the library beside my bed and no matter how many books I read in a week, the pile never seems to get shorter. lol.
I love the water! But there's something about the white (or is it pink? I can see traces of pink...) and black horse that just doesn't look quite right.....but all in all a wonderful painting! Did you do this on a black canvas?

I think she looks a little too long and thin, but I wanted to make it look like she was laying in the sand, not just on top of it. And, the canvas was a regular white canvas board. Oh, and good luck and have fun in those art classes!"
