*GASP* OMG OMG nudity! okay she's a mermaid. unless you wanna get disney-esque, i highly doubt real mermaids wear shells for bras. (yes mermaids are real hehehe) i don't draw alot of nudes, but i atually like this...

There's a bit of a story behind this. This piece was inspired by U2's 'Electrical Storm'. whenever i hear that song i think 'MERMAIDS!' how can't you? I know the song's not about them, but it's a beautiful song and i was corrupted by their music video (which is amazing). anyway here's the 'story'...

The guy is a prince of a castle on an island way out at sea. naturally he meets a mermaid and they fall in love. but it's a bittersweet love...they wish to be together at all times but she can't stay out of the water for so long. so he builds a tub and puts her in it, having the idea that she could survive in something like that. all she needs is water right? she agrees out of love for him. But mermaids are meant for the open sea and so she slowly begins to die. He finally realizes it in her last hours, and he's full of remorse...she's going to die, but he can't bear to part with her...;_;

this story kinda popped into my head while listening to the song and drawing it. i'll leave you with some lyrics

I think my favorite aspect of the drawing is the mermaid's face/expression, though full of pain, it just portrays a lot of emotion.
