'After a moment something about the size of a small horse hopped out into the grey twilight, and Carter turned sick at the aspect of that scabrous and unwholesome beast, whose face is so curiously human despite the absence of a nose, a forehead, and other important particulars.' - H.P.Lovecraft, Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

I sketched this ghast the same time as the ghoul, the deep one and the cthulhu spawn, but it's taken quite some time for me to finish it - even though I wanted the look to be a bit rough, just as the sketches had been.

Ughh! Well-done - when I saw it I was completely disgusted and a bit terrified.Which means you did your job incredibly well!

Awesome before even reading the description the first thing I thought was "Hey a Ghast!". They way you've rendered the legs from the descriptions is nicely done. I also like the highlights/shading. The way you bring out the musculature. Though I can't help wonder why there'ld be such a bright lightsorce down by the Vaults of Zin. hehe Anyways, I'ld love to see an action piece of some of these guys battling a Gug O_o

:-) Tiina 'Aarnia' Aumala replies: "True, in this much light a ghast would surely perish, but then you wouldn't get such a good look at it. "

I just bought me a big book o' Lovecraft with this story in it; I am *so* excited to read it. This is such a cool picture. The face matches the description really well. I wish I could see things this clearly when I read!
Congrats on Mod's Choice!

Awesome picture. You made this creature look very real and believable. Looking at 'Goblinprince's' comment thank you that you show this creature in a way we're able to see it even if it's normally not seen is that much light in the book.

You do realize that a Ghast is a gost of someone/something that died of starvation. That is why poor countries have MILLIONS of Ghasts.

It’s rare for someone to make a picture true to Lovecraft’s descriptions.Great job!

The digitigrade legs are great! Those can be very hard to do, but you have detailed them well!

Excellent artwork! After all of the ghasts I destroyed in numerous Moria/Angband clones, I finally get to see one. A truly fearsome beast, but a good dose of starlight will send it running. The cthulu picture was also great; keep up the good work!
