SciFi and Fantasy Art Ikuri, Lord of Hiitelä by Tiina Aumala

Ikuri was the son of Louhi and leader of the Western seeda, known as the menningät. He aided the Vestermen in their war against the Tallo-giants, but was killed. He went to Tuonela (the land of the dead) but his own son soon followed him, telling that the Vestermen had arranged his death and after that attacked the menningät. When Ikuri learned this, it set his anger aflame, and he swam back up the stygian river of Tuoni to return to the land of the living and lead his people in war. He came too late. The menningät that hadn't escaped in time had been slain and the old cities burned.

Ikuri did many terrible things after that, including slaying the whole family of the vestermen leader and cursing the lands of the giants so that the vestermen could not live there, but his wrath and thirst for vengeance couldn't be quenched. He remained bound to the world by his anger, and even today he rules over the hiisi, restless, hate-filled menningä ghosts, in Hiitelä, a gruesome castle in the middle of the deep forest, built from human bone, where he forever plans the destruction of all mankind.

18 Nov 2003	Teemu U Helenius	Loading... Ok, where's that background story from? I know my Kalevala, and there's no such thing in there. I'm asking this because I've been thinking of a loosely Kalevala-based RPG, and Ikuri's background has the right kind of feeling. Tiina Aumala replies: "It's a fantasy world of my own creation but heavily influenced by Finnish mythology. And it's still a work in progress."

Wilder	Loading... maybe it's just me but it's very hard to examine the whole picture. the chest creates a crazy visual effect that makes it seem like the screen is beginning to ripple. I love the sallow gaunt looks of this undead creature. I'm to understand that this is your story based upon finnish stories or at least inflenced by them. if so then I'm impressed and extremely interested in expanding my mind on the mythos of other countries and civilizations. you've rekindled the innocence of adventure and exploration in me once again. I thank you for that.
