You know, I always just assumed that some of the orcs going into battel *were* female. They're not human, so there's no reason why they should have all the same gender roles or secondary sex characteristics. Their names don't suggest gender, and their voices might be the same, so there's really no way to tell when they're all wearing armour,.

Tiina Aumala replies: "Maybe that could work, pre-marriage. After that, someone has to stay home and feed the kids, change diapers etc, and I doubt it's going to be daddy."

Nice picture, I'm always surprised by the works i find in here. I like the fact that you did something not very many artists did - show the real life of an orc/ogre. I always am used to seeing pics of orcs/orgres in battle mod, kind of dissapointing actually.

Anyways, when i got a look at this picture for the first time as well as reading the description i got confused - aren't orcs fangs supposed to pointing down? And isn't red eyes reserved for possessed/evil orcs/ogres?? BTW, some of the orcs babies are missing fangs.

Could you please give me a e-mail on this? I wouldn't mind discussing stuff like this! I like to see other artists POV's.

Tiina Aumala replies: "As for the fangs, that varied widely, but most often orcs are depicted with prominent fangs pointing up from the lower jaw. And the babies are still teething. I'm not where the red glow thing comes from, Warcraft? Anyhow, these are kind of realm-independent orcs, so I can ignore whatever rules I want. "

The closest thing kandronais geolithia has to orks is orknies. They have a hob form but are mainly hume hight or taller. Greyish brown thick hard skin not quite green, but green war paint is typical. Orkwives are quite presant as well. Its pretty much the same. Allthough, by 1223 of time since record, the role of the orknie tribes had shifted from barbarian warriors to communist miners. Odd mix... And the war breaking out between resource countries and manufactureing countries added a nice big swig of racism to the mix, as most miners were orknies... Sigh...

Weren't orcs corrupted elves? I believe in Tolkien's work if you were to read the appendages in RoTK you would find the origin of orcs. I know, with certainty, that the Uruk-Hai which Saruman "twisted" were men of the west tortured and "churned in the earth" to make something evil...Just a thought, but fantasy and Science Fiction is whatever the ARTIST makes it...Kudos.

Tiina Aumala replies: "Tolkien's orcs were originally corrupted elves, but actually Tolkien didn't invent the orc, he just refined them and gave them a distinct identity. After then all kinds of orcs have spawned from the minds of authors and artists."
