This alien has quite an unusual history. It began when I saw a practically indecipherable drawing by a yough child that was printed on a newspaper (I think it was supposed to be a machine of some sort). I got the strange idea to interpret the drawing as an alien creature, and drew my version of it. It somehow reminded me of the first chordates, which inspired me to speculate on what this creature might evolve into. I ended up with a bunch of strange bipedal bi-tentacle-mouthed things of which this sentient one was my favourite.

He looks creepy. Do we end up ticking them off too? Hope not!

:-) Tiina Aumala replies: "I just realized I've never thought of the varzi as very technically advanced. If they are, I do hope they're more peaceful than us."

It's... it's an elephant with two... what are those... nose-thingies. ^_^ This on I'd like to see in color.

Hey cool alien... I like the back story included with it. I find inspiration for my drawings from unusual sources too. Keep up the good work.

I very much like this picture, most of your aliens actually. I get kind of bored with the cliche aliens you keep seeing, they're either hideously evil Geiger inspired monsters (the Alien movies), or humanoids such as the grays or most of the Star Trek creations. Do you mind if I borrow a few of your designs for a role-playing setting of mine? I designed 12 non-humanoid aliens so far and I must say I'm kind of running out of inspiration.

One piece of comment though, I think the Varzi look like they could topple forward at any moment, the center of their body is too far from their hips, they'd either need an extra leg or a tail for balance... IMHO of course 2

:-) Tiina Aumala replies: "You can use them freely with my name attached... unless you manage to create some incredible commercial hit, at which point I'm going to start demanding financial compensation.

I don't think the varzi have any more problems with balance than your average giant flightless bird. Humans, on the other hand..."

That is by far the most adorable creature in all of elfwood

That is just wonderfully, fantastically plausible. Bravo!

Very good work, I'd love to see some of your drawings brought to life in a sci-fi movie!
