SciFi and Fantasy Art Cyborg by Arthur L. Williamson

I have nearly wrapped up my student teaching experience and was loafing around in class one day when someone suggested a theme of man and machine. Not wanting to waste valuable drawing time I grabbed a paper and pencil and came up with this little piece of work. Some half man half machine construct hard at work in his lab working out some repairs.

Pencil on copy paper. 8 1/2 X 11 inches.

Ah nothing like a good cyborg! Wonderful transition from spine to uh... wheel base (not sure what that would be called). I love the line work. I think that's what gives it this creepy feel to and it works really well! Keep up the great work!

:-) Arthur L. Williamson replies: "Thanks for the comments Rachel! Even though this got a mod's choice it hasn't had much love. Everyone was more interested in pointy eared elves and dragons so I appreciate the sci-fi fans out there!"

Oh dear- I think I disturbed him. *Backing away slowly* Nice to see some sci-fi around here. Fantasy is all well and good, but sci-fi is shiny. Congrats on Mod's choice. Dismembered arm. The first thing I thought (apart from- woah- cyborg) was whether the arm was his own (as in, the one he replaced with shiny metal parts) or someone elses. With the expression on his face, I'd go for someone elses. This picture is hectic, but in a good, in a distopic kind of way. Which frankly, is my preferred form of Sci-fi. Wheels!! *squeaks* *cough* Since wheels are robotically a lot easier then legs, wheels make sense(as in, robots usually use wheels but people working on making robotic legs habe found balancing problems). I don't get why they aren't used more in the world of half-robots. He looks scary, but it is a scary concept- loss of humanity and all that jazz. I'm going to run away now. *shifty eyes* Uphill. *runs away up a hill, laughiong maniacally.*

22 Arthur L. Williamson replies: "The arm is purely a spare part so it must be someone elses. Poor someone. Now they are a freakish one armed someone likely obsessed with tracking down the man who murdered... er I mean stole their arm! GO RICHARD KIMBALL!"

Quite wicked. I certainly hope you don't consider this a sketch. There's so much detail, I'd feel quite ashamed of things I actually put time into if you do. Your shading and such is excellent.

:-) Arthur L. Williamson replies: "I don't think I consider this a sketch. It might have originally been a sketch that I kept working at but I feel this piece is pretty fully developed. I hope so since I did put a lot of time into it!"

Well done with the whole cyborg thing-i love how his spine kind merges into the whatever you would cal it where his wheels are attatched lol. Anyway i find the picture very likeable,i myself have been trying to draw cyborgs, and to be honest my machines/cyborgs FAIL miserably. Love the dark theme kinda thing (menacing stare etc). Myes, very well done.

:-) Arthur L. Williamson replies: "To be honest I also have a difficult time drawing cyborg types. I think I just got lucky on this one. I do like the way it turned out and am a little sad it doesn't get more love by way of comments. Thanks for the comments by the way!"

Awesome. That makes me feel better; otherwise I would feel completely crappy about my own work. Haha, well done. It reminds me of a drawing done by my friend Joe. Mechanical heads and such.

xoxo

1 Arthur L. Williamson replies: "Mechanical heads were all the rage in '06! Now its mechanical pinkies!"

Art... A bit mysterious don't you think? I live among artists and certain amounts of wreckage makes sense 4 me to draw, it takes up less room *applaudes* quit nice in a i'm going to drive this screwdriver through you head and hope it shocks you sort of way.

1 Arthur L. Williamson replies: "Save the screwdriver. I'm more of crowbar sort of lad!"

Dude he looks so cool. The wheels remind me of the orange robot off of Robots and does that hand skeleton have wire wrapped around it? What's the M for at the bottom? You is good at drawin and i like the danger sign you put at the back, nice.

:-) Arthur L. Williamson replies: "Never saw Robots but man, nothing says SCARY ROBOT like a huge freakin' wheel!"
