SciFi and Fantasy Art Sketchies by Lauren A. Banks

A couple of African wild dogs and hyena sketches for a story I'm working on. Mayhaps I'll use a more realistic style for this story, as it's a fairly bloody tale, and cartoony characters don't always work well for those. Clockwise from the top is a evily chuckling hyena, a young male wild dog, a laughing or growling hyena, I'm not sure which, a wild dog child, a grinning adult male wild dog, and a sad looking female wild dog. The story is set in Africa, and the dogs and hyenas are opposing tribes. Lions also play a major role.

3 Dec 2002	S. M. Roberts	Loading... Wow! I wish I had such a ready range of expressions as you do. How long did that take..? I think you'd be darn good at animation. Are those "african hunting dogs" or what..? I got an african hunting dog I gotta draw and I'm not sure how they're patterened. Well, wow again!Not long. The penciling and inking don't usually eat up the time...it's the painting that does. Aye, African dog coats are hard. Due to a few requests, I'll have a tutorial on it put up on my homepage...whenever I get that posted!
2 Feb 2003	Felipe Martinez	Loading... The top face looks damn cool ^_^,that look of confidence really suits the species I think. Do you have any full body drawings or is this a one and only?Heh, well I have a few full-body drawings, but they're definitely never seeing the light of day! I'll try to get some decent one's posted later one though when I start working on this story. Right now my projects are to finish Wolf, Essenia, and the first issue of Double Helix, then I'll work on this one. Thankees for the nice words! ^_^
21 Feb 2003	Cedric Lutes	Loading... I love your art is very cool so keep it up..! when i found them as a thumbnails i thought it was these hyena from lion king LOLAhhh! Not the Lion King hyenas! LOL, sorry, I didn't like that movie very much. Fends off rabid TLK fans Back, back I say! Hee, well, hope they look different up close. Thanks for the comment. ^^

25 Jul 2003	SHADOW FOX	Loading... These are some pretty cool sketchies! Me likes the first wild dog. Very adorable looking. Slaps Moody across the head for pointing and laughing at the "weird-looking wild dog puppy Oh yes, and thank you for that tip on how to do an art trade. Huggles and licks Lauren LOL. I have to agree with Moody. The puppy does look rather odd. ^_^ I have an updated wild dog pic that I may or may not be posting in the near future. ^^ And no problem about the trade info.

Wonderful Picture!I would love to see the story but let me give you a bit of info to remember, hyena...clans are matriarchal (ruled by the larger, stronger females)...I've seen a lot of pictures featuring a much bigger dominating male, and considering hyenas are practically my favorite animal, I wanted to get the facts straight.
