Velocity Comics (a shop in Richmond) held a contest, 'Draw The Watchmen!' and I figured what the heck.

So here's Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl and The Comedian from DC Comic's 'The Watchmen,' except well.. rather female. :P

My basic theory/guide to doing fanart:

1) If you've a cast/multiple characters to choose from, don't go with the most popular. Because that's what most everyone else will do. Your work will stand out more this way.

2) Come up with a unique way of portraying your subjects. How is such-and-such normally portrayed? We don't need yet another fan art of X badass standing around looking ... badass.

3) Draw in your own style, or a partial hybrid of. Some of the best fan art I've ever seen has been in the artist's native style; not in the style of its souce.

I love your idea of Watch women in stead of Watchmen, the idea is wonderful as are your drawing skills.
GREAT JOB! I really dig the lighting and color usage. My favorite character is the female in the front in black. My favorite detail definitely would be her smiley face pin!

Having read The Watchmen... turning them all female is a scary idea. Women have their own way of 'getting things done'.
Great picture!!!

Ooh, Watchmen! I do like how you kept the characterization the same while still fundamentally altering them. The Comedian in particular makes the transition really well. Congrats on Mod's Choice!

I mean nothing more than constructive criticism, of course, but the gun doesnt exactly line up from one side of the neck to the other :/

but still wonderfully done. Congrats

I completely agree with your theory of doing fan art. I haven’t a clue who the characters are but it’s a very good picture.
