Hey Beth! I really like your gallery. You have a wonderful style to your artwork that reminds me of the old style book illustrations. Keep on drawing, I'd love to see more.

3 Beth Schwartz replies: "  Hi Brian! I LOVE old style book illustrations, so thanks for the comparison. I'll be visiting your gallary ASAP!!"

Hey, you got a good gallery here. I love alice in wonderland, black and white, and checkers, and well... You got a lot of the things I like here. bravo! very good! nice details.
My only suggestion is to work on faces a bit. some of them looked a bit funny. otherwise, I'm not complaining.

1 Beth Schwartz replies: "  hey!! thank you so much for commenting! wow, that's your only suggestion? I take that as a compliment! thanks for the constructive criticism and please visit again. (I'll be visiting your gallary soon!)"

Hi, Beth! It's a nice gallery you've got here for sure. The pen seems to be a "favourite" medium here and from my point of view your stronger pieces include such artwork as "Alice in wonderland" and "The girl". Both are very well made and rich in detail. I like that.

As for constructive critisism I could contribute with this: Look at the human body and structure more, even if you set out to do more of a cartoony style (like Alice or the queen). At times heads seems bigger than they ought to be. A keyword in your ear: "More". Do more with your artwork. Don't let be at the essential linework. Do more backgrounds (or try, backgrounds can be difficult at times, I do know that), more details, more shading, more contrasts (although I suspect that might be difficult when working with pens). Look at your mermaid picture for example, you could definitelly do more there to make her even more beautiful than she already is. And finally a more general tip: When working, work really big and *then* shrink when you've scanned and are about to publish. In that way, the artwork's lines and shading looks smoother and you can add shading, details and other goodness without having to worry if it will fit into the painting.
I hope I have said something that is of use for you. Keep in creating and keep up the work, Beth. Cheers!

11 Beth Schwartz replies: "  hello!!!!

my my my! thanks for taking the time to include all of the great advice! I will definitely put it to good use. You're right about my figures...I do make unusually large heads 12 I used to draw cartoons a lot. I am pretty lazy when it comes to backgrounds. most of the time, I just sketch a figure, and then forget about it for a while. I add stuff later. (which is why most of my characters look like they've been *pasted*...I don't have any action in my work...*sigh* shame) and any attempts I make at more contrast and such with my pens ends up looking...well, odd. practice practice. I have a lot of bigger pieces, but I don't have a large scanner, so the only work that I put on elfwood comes straight out of my sketchbook. it's a shame, really. my sketchbook is where I have most of my quick sketches
my larger stuff is more planned out

thanks for commenting!!!"

Hi beth, im not going to give any critisism as at one stage all are beginners so heres some advice instead... Try drawing the same picture over again to see improvemenrt in yourself, thats what i do, and im in the process of doing again, as it gives you a chance to see for yourself how to improve. If you would like any help just email me and i shalldo my best ^^.

I find your style interesting. I love your black and white work. Your lines are smooth and clean with verying thicknesses. Each picture has great balance. I'm very impressed, keep up the good work.

I was in Potter's Village last week asking around for you and they sent me to Keplin instead. The men there told me you had moved in with the faeries but I knew that wasn't true so I went to Refuge of Light near the Black Marsh and found your house there but it was empty. I think the elves ransacked it...anyways, I'll be in the Temple of the Sacred Stone all week, so look me up girl!

Nice work, but you need to try to find your own style, then perfect it. "I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've been doing art, but I don't think that you've found your groove yet. Just keep working and practice and you'll be super great in no time! 12
