Still in Aman, Aredhel sister of Fingon and Turgon is born in the house of Fingolfin. Joy is great when Araine (I don't know how Fingolfin's wife is called, that's the name I gave her) proudly presents her first daughter, the very first girl ever born in the Finwe family. From left to right: Fingolfin, Turgon, Araine, little Aredhel, Maedhros in the background, Fingon, little Curufin, born a few days before, Nerdanel and Feanor. In my imagination Nerdanel and Araine are good friends, as Maedhros and Fingon are, and they helped each other with the birthing of their children. That's why part of the Feanor family is here, too, Nerdanel was with Araine when Aredhel was born and Feanor brought hungry Curufin to be fed. I think Aredhel happened to be a pretty huge baby, poor Araine!

This is simply lovely, I really like the atmosphere that surrounds the family. It's a change from the events that weigh them down later on. 2
I also like the composition (I'm hopeless at it) kudos!
BTW, Fingolfin's wife is Anaire. She's named in HOME.

:-) Birthe Jabs replies: "Thank you! Anaire? Strange. How did I get so close to that name?"

Sometimes that happens with names - you did read it somewhere and then you come up with it all on your own, never realising your memory played a trick on you 12 I had that once when I named an RPG charactrer of mine Laurelin, only to find the name did exist...

I really like the family feeling int his pic. And I really like the idea that elven women have no problem breastfeeding their children in public! 12

this is really lovely, it's so family ad home centered, not all those big heroic pictures you always get of Elves, much more down to earth. well done

Just for the record, Finwė had three daughters along with three sons. Aredhel wasn't first girl born to Finwė's line. It isn't in the Silmarillian, but it is found in the HoME.

:-) Birthe Jabs replies: "I'm normally going in Silm canon. It's just too difficult to mind everything Tolkien wrote for he himself so often changed his mind. "
