"Belizian Fantasy" by Becky Camfield

Whilst in Belize I was fortunate enough to catch a most wondrous sight. A male Gryphus luxuriosus in full mating plumage. He circled the ruins of Caracol before disappearing back to the forest in search of a female to impress. The long tail feathers drop out after a month or so, and once thought to belong to some relative of the peacock. The females of this species are usually silver greens and purples, also rather luxuriosus but rarer to see. They are also highly territorial and known to kill anything that gets near their nest sites.

I have had this guy in my head since trip to Belize in January and have been working on him since about late january...slowly and steadily. He was going to be greens and oranges i think and ended up black o.O Oh the ruins are actualy based on those of Caracol which i have explored (was sooo much fun!).
Done in ink and watercolour pencils then edited lil in photoshop.
