he looks better in real life, damn camera!, mane looks more like it about to burst into flames , decided it feels a pure innocent in danger from a sinner nearby and has gone to protect it. They said to breathe fire so though why not a firey mane when angry hehe.
anyways sometimes called lord of the beasts (hairy), man is lord of the nude beasts XD, the phoenix, lord of the birds, dragon is lord of the scales beasts and turtle lord of the armoured. tad confusing but i suppose it depends on historical sources, which say the kirin/Qilin is actually based on giraffe brought to China.

hey I’ve read about these before, beautifully made, have you ever tried to draw a kilin? ( a unicorn, but has a more bull like appearance and no scales)
