SciFi and Fantasy Art Mat and Rand at Rhuidean by Mark Bray

Subject: Flaming sword in hand, Rand stands over Mat's body in the central plaza in Rhuidean. Artifacts are scattered around the area, including the doorway ter'angreal.

Thoughts: This first started as a simple still life picture featuring the Rhuidean artifacts. However, I couldn't pass up the chance to portray a good dramatic scene.
Of note is the doorway, which Jordan describes as having corners which don't fit right. Others have depicted the doorway (see here and here), which twist the uprights rather than the corners. When I read the description, I immediately thought of Escher. I wasn't sure I pulled it off until I showed the picture to a friend, who instantly covered it with his hand since he couldn't stomach that sort of illusion. At that point, I took it as a done deal.
As far as the other items are concerned, I took the time to look up some examples of abstract sculpture on the web, which was entertaining in itself.

The door to me isnt what i pictured tho...here it looks a bit too steely for a stone door frame doesnt it? I also imagined it a bit thicker/larger, as it takes multiple guys to move it and can be fallin into easily
