Tag As FavoriteComment		The bounty for magpies in the 1940's was two cents a head. Hundreds of thousands of magpies were killed and turned in for money, because these birds were considered predatory and thus needed to be controled.

To this day, coyotes are still shot, trapped, and poisoned. Seeing dead coyotes tied or impaled to fences is not an uncommon sight in the western United States.

This is a piece for all the outcasts. For all the 'pests' and 'vermin' of the world, whose beauty is ignored and are seen only for their negative impact on the human world. Their angel is not dazzlingly beautiful. She is dull and thin. Dandelions adorn her hair and only brambles offer their embrace. She can perform no miracles. Her only offering is open arms and a wing that isn't bound by barbed wire.

11" X 15" Watercolor. 20 hours.

Very interesting. I just saw a children’s toy yesterday that was part of a set that honors herbivores and villifies predators-- old notions die hard. Predators have a role in both wild population control, and as intelligent friends to humans. (I am a big cat keeper, and nothing in this world can compare with a lion’s love!) BTW, I have both magpies and coyotes in my yard on a regular basis.

Twenty hours is a lot of devotion, but I think this is a beautiful piece of art. It’s very sad and dark and kind of scary, but I do love it.

I am in love with this picture and meaning. I, too, did a picture with a similar meaning. It was Jesus surrounded by criminals, insane people, and victims of human cruelty all wanting redemption. I also wrote a poem, hailing a mosquito.

This is why we should outlaw insecticeds and pesticides.
