A few months ago, my wife told me that she wanted me to do a series of angels for her, drawing from classic biblical reference and mythology. There's actually a fairly interesting website out there about them, if you're into that sort of thing. Anyway, the practical upshot of all that is that I decided to start with Micheal. Didn't turn out exactly as I had expected, but I think the wings are quite nice.  Any 'foreign text' is just gibberish.

*first comment bounce* this is a really nice picture, really nice shading. Just one thing, his fingers are too small.Or his palms are too big, but it doesn't really matter, does it? I don't know what happened to the hands, really. They kind of came off like I wanted, but there are still issues. Thanks for the comment.

Well I love it and it is going up on my wall. The hand is the only thing I see as well that needs a bit of work. What do you mean, going up on your wall?? It's not...oh, wait, yeah it is. Go ahead 12

This is so beautifully impressive. I've always pictured Michael as a very "manly" angel, just as you've shown him here. Your composition is flawless.Thank you very much. I wanted each of the angel pieces to be pretty special, and I think I've done ok with the first two.

Wow, what an awesome image!! The composition as a whole is superb. The folds in the cloth make it look almost real, and the light coming in behind him is an excellent touch.Thanks. The shading on his body really should be different to reflect the light source behind him, but maybe angels glow in the dark? 12

You know, for some odd reason, he reminds me a bit of you. Hm.Must be the sword....12

The wings and shading are awesome! I think I figured out what is bothering people about the hand (it looks really good by itself), it seems turned too far out to be a natural pose (I tried it, it's very uncomfy!). It looks like you left it really light conpared to the rest of the drawing, maybe a hint that you aren't totally comfortable with the way it looks as well? It's hard to rework a picture after you put so much hard work into it! Good job on everything else! Thanks muchly. I don't really know why it's lighter than the rest of the piece, it wasn't intentional. Maybe subconsciously I wasn't sure about it. Who knows? But, even though it's uncomfy, you still CAN get your hand in that position! 12

He looks like he's saying: "Bring it on!" Oh, what's his sword doing on that side? He can't get at it very well with that shield in his hand. Also, the hand needs to be longer especially the fingers.I think that, being an angel, the place where his sword rests is immaterial. He should be able to get to it from anywhere. That's my story and I'm sticking to it 12

I find that the face doesn't quite fit the pose, he should either be smiling, more seem a touch more agressive. but that's probly just me.I was going for "serene"...guess it didn't make that, either. Thanks for the comment.

ooooh, that breast plate's practical. looks really cool, though. I like the way you did the lighting, and his halo's really neat. however, you might want to look at some photos and anatomical drawings of bird's wings. there's one more joint in there. that aside, this picture is incredible.

Yep, the hang on the sword is, err... wrong. On the other hand, an angel would have an angelic sword, so who says it even needs to be worn to be available?

I do love the wings. My device has two pegasi on it, and trying to draw those dratted wings always gives me fits. I avoid repainting my shield whenever possible.Wings can be a pain in the ass. That's why Gabriel's wings look more like stained glass, I wanted to do something without feathers. Thanks for the comments! 2
