Brian L. Husted replies: "His hat is one of my favorite parts too. I don't think I have a lot of patience, I just really get into my drawings sometimes."

The darkness of it is great, to me, because I always thought of this nursery rhyme as a darker one. I'm not sure why, though, it's a mystery. Love the cat! Brian L. Husted replies: "I always thought of "the crooked man" as being a bit darker than the other nursery rhymes too. Although when you think about it, a lot of them are pretty twisted. I'm glad you like it."

I could see it as part of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Brian L. Husted replies: "I’ve always enjoyed Tim Burton’s movies, but I think I’m more influenced by Edward Gorey’s artwork when it comes to pen & ink. You should check out his Gashlycrumb tinies sometime. It is sick and wrong, yet very very funny."
| 16 Aug 2004 | Irene L Lolan | Loading...Ow I really like this.. I always hope to make these kind of pictures.. Because they have something unique to them. Great picture! Brian L. Husted replies: "I’m glad you appreciate the sense of uniqueness in my artwork. I always try very hard to do something unusual with my stuff (which isn’t easy because there are so many talented creative artists out there). Hopefully I’ll be able to do some more pen & ink drawings like this, but I need to find the time. I have a couple of cool ideas for the pied piper of Hamlin, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet." | |

But you really thought through all of it, up to the smoke from the chimney! It is just wonderful! Brian L. Husted replies: "One of the things that attracted me to the poem was that it was so descriptive. I tried to get every item from the rhyme in the drawing and then add a few more little crooked touches. It’s hard to see in this scan, but I even used the crooked sixpence as the cat’s tag on his collar."
| 26 Aug 2004 | Ashley R. Wynn | Loading...This was always one of my favorite nursery rhymes! I just love the Bifrost Archives. Brian L. Husted replies: "It's always been a favorite of mine too, so I'm glad I had an excuse to do a drawing for it. Now if only I can get around to doing more, I have other ideas for similar pen & ink drawings that I just haven't gotten to yet.
Wendy and V have done an awesome job on the Bifrost Archives. It has taken a lot of work, and now that I'm done with nine new tours (the tickets are all pending now), they have tons of new entries to add to the project archives. It's nice to see that that people appreciate their hard work and the archives are working for people to go through and find all these entries for past projects."

| 29 Jan 2005 | Moritz von Gliszczynski | Loading...Perfectly adorable style on this, simply put. The general "look" of the drawing strongly emphasizes the word crooked. Brian L. Husted replies: "I had fun making this as crooked as possible. It sounds like it worked." | |
| 12 Apr 2006 | Barbara J. Wickham | Loading...Definitely worthy as a book illustration in addition to just being a darned good piece of art. The style is a joy to look at as the eye follows all of the crazy, crooked lines and admires the beautiful inking. It also has a very classic feel to it, like something one would see in an old children's book. | |
