SciFi and Fantasy Art Merrow by Bronwyn McIvor

In a Brian Froud book I have on Fairies, there is a brief description of Merrows, a sort of monstrous merman. I liked the idea of such a creature and wanted to try my hand at it, so I broke out the watercolours (fittingly enough). I also tried a technique using salt that I read about in Amy Brown's book to make dappled patterns. Overall I quite like how he came out, and I wouldn't like to meet him in a murky lake. . .

I had a lot of fun (and a bit of frustration!) playing around with the tecnique. Of course, it didn't help that I wasn't using watercolour paper. . . Oh well, I still like how he turned out!"
