SciFi and Fantasy Art Self Portrait by Jennifer A. Cabbage

I did this painting for Bifrost's Twisted Self-Portrait project - it's more of an internal self-portrait than an external one. This started out as a sketch, which I transferred to watercolor paper by putting it face-down and rubbing the back of the sketch (so things got reversed, and I had to reposition the earrings and moles!). Then it was mostly done in watercolor, with the exception of the water below the road, and the interior of the bookshelves. The water was layered with a bit of a photo I took near Depoe Bay, and the books on the shelves are books off my own shelves, scanned on the flatbed scanner and carefully inserted in semi-random order into the painted shelves. Some of them are _almost_ recognizeable. *laugh* There's a few silly little details crammed in.

I really love all the symbolism in this pic...the multiple arms for all the different things you like to do...the free hair and the braided...shorts and pants...then, the bookshelf filled with books you enjoy...the dragon in the background.
