This is the colored version of my critter, who is winged and reptilian but not a dragon. The critter is a sketch that I scanned in, outlined, colored in and shaded, etc. The background is a Terragen render. If you look at the original sketch, you'll see that I changed the position of the second wing so you can actually see that there is one- me being me, I forgot to do that until I had everything else completely done. So I did a lot of creative rotate, cut, copy, paste, transparency settings to get that second wing in there. Ugh. ;) The eye is actually a scan of a tiny tumbled piece of quartz crystal, about a quarter-inch diameter sphere. Since it was scanned on a flatbed with the lid up in a dark room, it scanned very dark, but it makes a nice round-looking bit to use for various applications.

This image I like because the "normal" drawing looks just as well as the rendered background. I see you must have done alot of work to get that second wind there, through I think I would have drawed the wing on the left side of the paper. I like your other renderings too. Also this critter looks fine before it was colored.
I think the suggestion that Kat (DreamWolf) Nicholson made there might proof useful, I try it all the time but proportions remain tough.
Keep up the good work miss Cabbage.

:-) Jennifer A. Cabbage replies: "Yeah, if I'd drawn him at a different angle, it would have made it a lot easier, I think. Although head-on with a wing to either side has it's own problems of perspective! Ah, well. 12"

I think this picture is great. I understand that Terragen takes a lot of time and enery to work with. I onced tried to use it but I failed miserably. I don't think my computer likes me...

:-) Jennifer A. Cabbage replies: "It takes some practice, yeah. Lots and lots of trial and error- there's a number of tutorials extant, and yahoo has a number of themed groups that people can join to talk about using Terragen and get help and all that."

I really like the feel to this piece..makes me think of a dragon in the Highlands of Scotland! Love it! Love it!

:-) Jennifer A. Cabbage replies: "*grin* Thanks! That's actually more or less exactly the kind of place I had in mind as I did the background. A kind of misty, high moor sort of place."

I love how you've melded the photo background with computer drawn dragon image and not made it seem totally obvious. Lovely job, you definitely get a feeling of height.
