Originally made in stone, this mermaid belonged once to a royal fountain at the entrance to a palace overlooking the Atlantic. The palace was destroyed, however, in an earthquake in 12 A.D., and the little mermaid was washed into the ocean by a tidal wave. She sank, eventually, to the bottom of a coral reef, where she remained, unseen, for nearly two thousand years. Until one night, at full moon. (Illustrator)

Very nice! The color pallete is amazing. It's very realaxing to look at with all those cool pastels. The hint of warmth in there in the flowers is a very nice touch. The contrast is very nice. Great job! =)

:-) Caisa M. Howerin replies: "The last things I added as contrast were the red flowers in the foreground. Thanks for noticing."

This is so pretty, and I love the premise behind it! I'm amazed you can do such magical things in Illustrator!

:-) Caisa M. Howerin replies: "Thank you. This picture started as a doodle. It took a long time before she turned into a mermaid. The patterns along her body were originally tattoos. I realized eventually it looked as if she was made of marble, and that's how in the end the little story came about."

I love mermaids, this is what I think of when someone says mermaid. Care to explain the guy in the background? Bet you I'm the first person to notice it. *winks* I like it.

:-) Caisa M. Howerin replies: "Glad you noticed the guy in the background. The story is a version of Sleeping Beauty and only makes sense if you notice his presence."

I love the style of this picture! The colours are amazing and there's just something about her expression that really grabs me!

This is one of the coolest pictures of a mermaid that I have ever seen. I love the headress - aztec, egyptian or indian looking. I like the abstract shapes and the colors. Her face is wonderful - detail work is on target. Great work!

:-) Caisa M. Howerin replies: "Thanks for your comment and interesting observation about the aztec look. I enjoy working with patterns and abstract shapes, which is why Illustrator is my medium of choice. Glad you liked other aspects of this painting as well, especially the mermaid's face."
