This is a picture of what I thought a Basilisk might look like. I tried to combine some sort of lizard-like qualities to make it feel kind of reptilian. This piece was done in Pen & Ink on regular sketching paper.

Basalisk (sp) and cockatrice are pretty much the same thing, the same basic idea with a few little variations to each. There is a really good description at Gareth Long's encyclopedia of mythical creatures online. Anyway, I can't believe you did this in pen! Your poor hand, with all that detail! How long did this take you? I love the fact that his scales seem to shine a bit. Also, a very natural looking pose.

Cool pic. There's actually quite a pantheon of "basilisks". There's the HP giant snake, the 2-foot long crowmed snake that can shatter boulders and kill with a glance, the eight-legged lizard, the half rooster-snake, and I could just go on and on...

That's actually kinda cute! Then again, I LOVE reptiles. Great job! Yeah, there's alot of Basilisks. There's a real lizard called the basilisk it looks like a frilled lizard and can actually run on water!

Ahhhhhhh, it looks like a baby reptile. Is that what you wanted? Very good job!

:-) Ryan Caisse replies: "I was considering using this piece as a baby dragon in the future. "
