Michael Working primarily with airbrush, acrylic paint, and colored pencils, fantasy artist Michael Calandra strives to create images of a dark and haunting nature. Often depicting a commanding and sensuous female figure, he uses dramatic poses, lighting, and color to produce atmospheric settings that reflect the essence of his subjects. Michael’s fantasy work has been featured in many publications, including the iconic Heavy Metal Magazine, as a gallery artist (March 2007), twice as a cover artist (September 2007 and May 2009), and as a 2009 Heavy Metal Calendar artist. His work has appeared in showroom galleries in International Illustrator, Airbrush Art and Action, and is featured in Veronika Kotlajic’s “The Perfect Muse” book, Bianca Beauchamp’s “Fetish Sex Symbol”, and “Drakaina – Fantasy of Desires”. Art Scene International (April 2008) featured Michael’s art an in depth feature interview and tutorial on the creation of his painting “Destroyer” featuring Bianca Beauchamp. Fantasy author George R. R. Martin (A Game of Thrones) enlisted his services through Fantasy Flight Games to work on the series of game cards for the A Game of Thrones role playing game.

Very nice work, reminds me of Boris Vallejo would be nice to see more than one character in the pieces though, or have the characters interacting with their surroundings, rather than staring out at the viewer all the time... would add even more amazing-ness to your pieces! First off i must admit i am truly a fan of your gallery, you prove how much and how great of an artist you really are. But i am in curious about one thing, do you have models that pose for your work? I ask this because the every details its just beyond amazing.

:-) Michael Calandra replies: "Thanks! I have to say I am not on here very much, but I stopped to check in. I use actual models, so I am always kind of keeping an eye out. You can always email me, if you have photos that you think may be usable. I keep a folder on all my models for future use. "

318 I am very very much left completely breathless with your gallery mr. Calandra, and i am very much a fan of great artworks such as yours. But how do you decide which model fits your work? & 22 is there a chance anyone can tryout? And i’m sry for asking so many things but last 1...have you ever thought about putting out a specific type calendar or anything in that genre for some of your work?
(its beneath you know i know, but just curious)

:-) Michael Calandra replies: "Hi! I just checked in. I am not here all that often. I keep folders on models that send me references. Then, I may find that I can use them for a project. You can always email me!
I don’t have a calendar, but SQP is publishing a book for me this fall. It should be out soon!"
