I was sitting on the old dam by the river today, playing my guitar, and I thought this up...

Placid and lifeless, still as a stone.

An unstirred heart, not ever is grown.

Restless in spirit, audacious in soul.

Intrepid and reckless and hard to cajole.

The freedom we long for, a falcon in flight.

The spring wind propelling the tail of your kite.

Contriving a plan to find a new place.

Egress from your hardship with disarming grace.

A magical path, your compass to discover.

A new tenderness in the grasp of this lover.

The quiet of the river, each furrow and nook.

Ensconces the veiled secrets beneath the brook.

Clairvoyant and enraptured dwelling, I mustn’t bide.

The peace, though intangible, arises inside.

Methinks you got a hit song on your hands, so impressive! Go on kingdom-wide gypsy tour, get famous!

:-) Genalee Simon replies: "XD Well I will certainly have to ask my gypsy friends to put it to music with me. And it’s not like we aren’t traveling anyway. 2 We’ll have to stop by your village sometimes and play for all of you. "

"Intrepid and reckless and hard to cajole"--I like that line. And "ensconces" the secrets--like a sconce for a candle on a wall, meant to treasure and display a thing, but to bury it.

What I do not understand is why, at the beginning, you have a thing "still as a stone"--and then the rest of the poem is so full of motion. Did the state of the heart suddenly alter, or is this beginning at the dam and reaching out to the river? I’m sorry, I don’t quite get it...

:-) Genalee Simon replies: "Our interpretations are what makes us unique, no need to apologize. But let me try to explain. Ensconces is actually a word meaning "to concel" Think like a viel. The dam and river doesn’t really relate just inspired me. Basically it started off saying "still as a stone" as in life was boring everything was the same. The poem is about escaping to a place full of life and mystery where nothing is "still" or "normal" which is why I say things are hidden and your discovering it. And so far this is my favorite comment on this poem. 2"

Thanks for the explanation! And I am glad to have given pleasure.

:-) Genalee Simon replies: "Of course! 2"
