| 26 Aug 2003 | Jens Höffgen | Loading...K, i try to give you some advice with what i think looks wrong: The dragons body (i see it's not a dragon, but i have no clue what that animal would be called, so it's the best i can come up with) is mostly a round tube. That's not bad at all, but between its arm there are these breast plates (hope this word makes sense) and their form implies a rib cage, that has and edge in the middle of the front. I would perhaps hint a rest of this form at the body part under its arms. Also i think the chest is to small compared to the girth (?) of the rest of the body. Then about the plates again: Do they just cover his rib cage? I would say they normally reach down to his legs at least (now i see there even are such.) in this case accent them some more. They need depth. And there is something wrong with his paws. First of they are way to big if you ask me, and then they have no heel. They are just very flat. At the leg the lower leg is even deeper at the ground than the paw itself. This doesn't work for me. Don't you want to enlarge the moon? This is a fantasy setting...A huge moon is so very beautiful and a gloomy white would be a perfect contrast to the other colors. Make the dragon's scales reflect the moonlight. (yay this painting will be great.) i have to say you chose a perfect setting. This is fabulous. The dragon looks calm and soft and the ladies (are they elves?) are simply beautiful. I most enjoy the one sleeping on its paws. But is her foot to small? Have a careful look at this again. I hope some of this was helpful, the drawing is brilliant can't await the final image. Amanda Canfield Farmer replies: "Thank you, Jens, for all of your wonderful advice!! I agree about the breast plates (actually, I had intended to work on those and other details filling out the dragon, but that just hasn't gotten done yet :/)... and widening the chest a little might be a very good idea. And you're very right about the paws. That's my least favorite part about the picture; they really need some work... I like em big (I think I must be the only crazy person that likes snakey dragons with huge feet!), but what you said about them being too flat and about the lower leg will help me fix them, I think... Hm... I just might want to enlarge the moon, after all (; .. and the final painting will definitely have reflecty dragon scales!! I also think you're right about the sleeping girl's foot... I hadn't noticed this before... I think the riding girl's foot might be a little too small, too.... hm.Thank you again for all of your comments! I'm glad you like the sketch." | |

| 27 Aug 2003 | Shaman <SimonoftheP@hot...com> | Loading...Is the dragon's chin stapled to it's chest, or am I missing something here? The Dragon's feet are too big I think, and the body's sort of stupidly small, the people are good. | |
| 29 Jul 2005 | Uncle ulric | Loading...I would remove the two figures on the sides of the picture. They may serve to frame the image but they also take away from what I feel is the main focus of the work which is the girl and the dragon. The small fairies in the background are fine in that help with the fantasy theme with out being a distraction. As far as the dragon itself, I like mine with wings and fuller bodies and less snake like. But it's your dragon not mine. I hope to see it when it finished. | |
