| 22 Jun 2005 | Rayray | Loading...Maaaaan. Move out. Move into my old building. Or something. My old place was 350 flat, and if you can pay rent to dad you might as well pay rent and have complete freedom and live in the oregon district. I mean, come on. Do you have any money saved up? | |

| 23 Sep 2005 | Dawn D. Davidson | Loading...Hi, Hannah! As promised, I have come to visit!gt;r>I can really see a lot of talent and potential in your work. I especially love your work with ink - you have a wonderful light touch that gives such a beautiful textural quality to a piece - I'm amazed you're able to do what you do with a plain ol' ballpoint pen! AMAZED. As far as crit, what I see are mainly some common anatomical errors that usually stem from making assumptions about the body rather than really /looking/ at it. I'm pointing it out only because I did the same thing - your work reminds me very much of my own at your age (although with vastly different subject matter ). It's something I /still/ do if I don't make myself use references. Unfortunately I can't be very specific because it's not a matter of, "Well, just fix this part and you're done"; it's more of a shifting of /how you think/ while you're drawing, and the only way to do that is to take a good drawing course, preferably a life drawing course since you do so much figure work. If you get a chance to do so, by all means take it - you have the instincts and a good eye; all you need is some consistent direction. Until you are at that point, I advise drawing from life as much as you can. That's a hard thing for a fantasy artist, because we all love drawing what's in our heads! But it is worth the time it takes, since the skills can then be applied across the board. I look forward to seeing what you put up as you develop your skills.br>;And congratulations on your engagement! I have to say, you look amazingly like a girl I knew in college - which is relevant to nothing, but it just makes me go, "Wow. That's weird." Hannah E. Hounshell a.k.a. The Kristal Griffen replies: "hm...yes..people tell me i need to take a life drawing class...just one thing...i dont feel comfortable drawing naked people....meh...um..so i just tend to use an anatomy book.i've also altered some things on purpose to go along with the griffen anatomy, but i know i still need work. thanks for your compliment on the ink drawings...all i can say is that is takes patience and a very fine pen tip ^_~ pentels are perfect for inking and shading (thats what i used for my "water goddess" picture) a friend of mine insisted i try inks and start learning to draw with them so i did...it is also nice to hear someone i dont even know say i have talent. for some reason it makes to more real...er..yeah *ahem* and you remind me of someone too...hm...wierd, lol ^_^ thanks for your time and thanks for the comment!" | |
| 2 Mar 2006 | Tasia MacKay | Loading...Nice gallery you've got here. I'll offer a little bit of crit, if you don't mind; one thing you could work on is facial proportion. For example, making the foreheads bigger and the eyes a little smaller would improve your drawings greatly in my opinion. I used to make my foreheads too small and then one day I thought, "Why don't I just try making them bigger?" lol and my drawings looked so much better after. I really like the creativity of your ideas; keep up the good work! Hannah E. Hounshell a.k.a. The Kristal Griffen replies: "i have started making the foreheads bigger but the eyes are supposed to be a bit on the large size as they arent truely human, just human-like. but i do see what you mean and i'll try to keep it in mind. thanks!" | |

Actually your human anatomy is pretty well defined. I’m jealous! Keep it up and hope to see more! Hannah E. Hounshell a.k.a. The Kristal Griffen replies: "I dont think that sounds funny at all *smiles* and thank you! I have some really awesome anatomy books I use and they help a LOT.
Thanks for the comment!" | |
