This is a poem based on Penelope from the Odyssey. Now, if you're immature and can't deal with the idea that in the ancient Greek world it was acceptable for women to have women as lovers, I suggest you don't read this. And grow up.

Wise Penelope

Sitting year after year in her polished

chair, shedding tears for her lost lover.

Faithful Penelope

Ignoring the advances of men, although they

offered her tempting gifts of love and protection,

abstaining from the love of Odysseus for twenty years.

Cunning Melantho

She knew the ways to win the favor of the

lonely Queen who had raised her from a child

and loved her in many ways

The night of brave Odysseus’ return

Penelope spoke with him, her thoughts

clouded by the thought of her lovely,

young Melantho, her own friend and lover of many years

And so compassionate Penelope failed to notice the

husband she had waited for and wanted so long.

Later on, as weary Odysseus’ feet were washed by

his gentle nurse, the goddess of the bright eyes

bewitched Melantho into flirting with Eurymachus

before Penelope’s very eyes

Penelope, lovelorn and distraught, watched with

stone eyes, knowing the inevitable day had come

Melantho had learned the love of a man and

had no use for her aging and needy Queen.

I haven't read the Oddysey and I am a writer...no, do not throw a copy at me! I haven't a desire to read the Oddysey, not yet, anyway...
Great poem. Um, everyone has stolen everything worth complimenting or complaning about so I'll leave you to it... *runs away before a shower of Oddysey books comes down from Chelsea's direction*

:-) Chelsea Castonguay replies: "you really should read it at some point before you're forced to read it in school and it's mutilated in a text book."

Very nice. I love the classics. There's only one line that seemed a little off to me, "had raised." Your poem makes a great addition to the Odyssey.

:-) Chelsea Castonguay replies: "Thanks! I'm sure it does need to be reworked, poetry is definately not my cup of tea!"

Uh Jenna the oddysey was sort of where Melantho came from,
Homer can’t really not give ol’ Mel justice. he created her she is however he wants her to be, its like saying shakespeare portrayed hamlet poorly or Stan Lee (father of most marvel super heroes) portrayred spider-man badly their sposed to be portrayed how ever the the writer thinks they should. I guess Chelsea should get credit for the creativity and being such a good fan of the Odyssey (not sure if I spelled that right) but I don’t like the way you downsized Odysseus her husband, lost light of her life, father of her child, and ONE OF THE AWESOMEST CHARACHTERS IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY!!!!!!! I mean your making it so Odysseus fights a war and goes through innumerable obstacles never before passed for 20 years gets home and finds a bunch of jerks pushing his son around taking his stuff and moving in on his wife just to find out his wife is a lesbo and really doesnt care about him anymore

by the way I saw this film of the odyssey and at the end the reason Mel snitched to the suitors was because one of them seduced her and when Odysseus is shooting all the bastards down the seducing suitor gets Mel to open the door and when they run into each others arms Odysseus shoots them BOTH with ONE arrow 22 AWESOMENESS
