Twenty-three years ago in the Underdark city of Ban Drezzith, a drow boy named Veldrin was born. He was a child rebellious of nature and wild of ideas. Eventually he grew into a young man powerful of voice, long of hair and quick of fingers...
And thus he did rock the underdark, and the great caverns did ring to the sound of drow metal.


Drew this, because my story 'Rogues of Ban Drezzith', about rogue Drow in an unconventional underdark city, is full of some very strange characters and Veldrin the drow guitarist is among the strangest...I wanted to do a picture that captured my lil Veldrin's personality and onstage personality. I gave him a new guitar for this picture too (lucky boy, getting all these new guitars.) It came out pretty well, I didn't mess up the proportions nearly as much as I expected I would although I'm not sure I made his jaw quite square enough in the closeup profile on the left. (Dispite being an elf, he's a pretty square-jawed guy.) And thanks to my friend Emma for helping me with the profile. That nose nearly drove me insane...


Drawn while listening to "The Book of Heavy Metal" by Dream Evil...one of those songs that just reminds me of Veldrin :D
Drow and metal...a good combination.

I love that hair, lol. Only one thing: (elves don't have canines, lol)

:-) Cat Bowen replies: "I've seen so many versions of fantasy that all say something different so I pick and mix with my own world settings...(For example, some that say elves are all really tall, some that say they're short, etc) and Veldrin kinda needs canines so that he can bite things. Hehe...he has a tendency to do that. "

I must say, this picture, and the small storyline to it, are a magnificent idea. I applaud your majestic ability, and bow before the brilliance you hold. As for the previous comment of the lack of canines in elves, I think he wouldn't be the same without them. Therefore, he needs them. Glad you let him keep them. Some people don't understand the term fantasy properly. Fantasy is what you make it. Keep up the extremely good work. And never let stereotypes hold you in line. I take my leave, now that you have a book to read. :6ows a bit.:: Eve, m'lady.

Yeah, as for the stereotype business, I have chopped out a load of the fantasy cliches that are so common because I didn't feel they suited my more modernised world setting, for a number of reasons. Thanks for your comment. 1"
