Hmmm, I don’t think they have the friends list worked out yet, otherwise I’d love to be able to add people - I wish they did! Oh and this might take a while so I’ll make it a separate comment, but I can certainly try to help ya with uploading things . . .
So first, at the very left of your screen there’s that big brown rectangle, and the very last thing you can click should say "community" on it. If you click on that it will take you to a page that has on it a list of some of Elfwood’s newest members, and under Community on the brown rectangle seven more options should appear. One of will say "Upload here," and that’s the one you want. When you click on that option, it takes you to to a page called the extranet, where you can reply to comments, make icons for existing artwork, and upload your pictures. On the very left is a list of the things you can do from the extranet, including one that says "Upload picture" (it’s the second one down ). There will be two options, "Click here to upload a new picture," and "Click here to replace an existing picture with a new upload!" You want to upload new pictures, so click on the first one. This will take you to a page with a bunch of spaces for you to fill out information about your picture, and that part is usually pretty self explanatory. The first thing it shows for you to do though is to browse for your picture among your files, so after scanning it in you can click on your picture and it will be good to go when you’re done filling out the other information it has you give on that page. For the copyright licence (the blue box near to the very bottom of the page), I usually choose "All rights reserved," but you can decide on whichever option you want (they’re all explained right there along with the options). And finally, at the very bottom, you hit upload and your picture is added to a list of pictures you can access from the Elfwood extranet.
Okies, they have a limit for how long a comment can be here on Elfwood, so I’ll make this two seperate comments . . .
Do this again for as many pictures as you want (you need at least four to actually publish them on your page), and when you’re all done with all the changes you want to make hit the button titled "publish changes." After you go through a variety of pretty self explanatory pages asking questions to the effect of "have you read all the rules properly," and "are these really the changes you want to make to your page," they’ll automatically tell you if your picture does not fit the sizing guidelines. If there’s something wrong with the sizing of one of your pictures, you can just go back to your pictures list and click "resize," then hit the Publish changes button again. If they meet all of these qualifications, your pictures will then be submitted into what’s called the ticket queue and you’ll have to wait a long time for Elfwood’s moderators to check them over for excess white space or lack of a fantasy theme. Don’t worry though, after your first upload things will go much faster as far as having your pictures published goes!
I know uploading things for the first time can be really confusing, so I hope this helps you at least a little bit! If there’s any questions you have you can always hop on over to my page and ask. Oh and also, I just remembered, I think that right below the option that says "Upload here" on the little brown menu there’s something that says "A quick guide to uploading." It was written by Thomas F Abrahamsson (the creator of Elfwood), so that can probably help you as well if something still isn’t clear. So again, good luck, and have a good time here at Elfwood!
Okies, so I replied to your comments over on my page, and basically that "brown rectangle" I kept mentioning, lol, means that big box over on the left-hand side right below the Elfwood logo when you’re at the top of the screen. Sorry I’m so horrendous at describing things like that, lol.
And about the scanner, I’ll tell you how I work mine and I hope it can at least help you somehow. First I bring up the scanning program on my computer (called XSane image scanner for me - again, might be different for you). Once I have the picture face down on the scanner I hit the "acquire preview" button on the computer. and it brings up a quick scan of my picture so that I can choose to cut off certain white spaces on the actual scan. After that, I just hit the "scan" button on the computer and it will make a the good final scan of the artwork. Then I just save it to my desktop where I can find it again when I need to upload it, and I’m done.
You’ll probably want to experiment with your scanner individually though as well, it took me forever before I could finally get the hang of mine, trust me. Hope I could help ya at least a little bit though, because I know things like those can be really confusing when you’re trying to do them for the first time. Good luck my friend!!!
