Here’s another picture of Illucian, this time in her cockatoo/clouded leopard gryphon form, done for the LiveJournal Gryphon Art Exchange community. At first I wasn’t quite sure how to depict Illucian’s gryphon form; she’s almost entirely white and I so love colours, so I was more or less at a loss. But then I decided to put the colours in the background instead, resulting in me spending waaaay too much time drawing clouds and trees and strange jungle vegetation. I have no idea if the Luxietoo really is at home in a jungle, but with her exotic appearance she seemed to fit in right away. ;}~

Made in Painter Classic as usual.

Edit: After reading all the comments I’ve received on this picture, all of which I appreciate since both compliments and critique help me become a better artist, I see that many people think Illucian’s crest is looking a bit odd in this picture. I realise that it is not a conventional cockatoo crest, but I would like you to know that I did in fact use reference photos for this drawing and that one of the images from www.corbis.com (a wonderful site for reference pictures, apart from that) actually showed a bird with such a crest, seemingly consisting of only a single row of feathers placed sideways on the head. I really liked the look, so I borrowed it for the picture, but since then I have been informed that the crest is possibly not from a cockatoo at all, but from some other white parrot-like bird. That’s what you get from not doing you research properly. ;} I apologise to all the cockatoo lovers out there for making such a blatant mistake, hoping that you will forgive me and like the picture regardless. *Smiles.*

The feathers on his head makes him look like he's trying to go for a Moe-Hawk but everything else is gorgeous.

I agree about the feathers on the birds head they should be more tucked in and at an angle b/c right now they dont look that natural. But i like the overall picture its very deatiled and has a fitting background. Good job

I think this is awesome. I say to the people who dared critisize this that this is no conventional cockatoo, therefore it is allowed to be different. Besides, where I live there are flocks of them flying over my house all of the time. I think this is so close to real I can almost hear it's call. Oh... wait... that's the pink and greys flying over. Never mind. Anyway, I wanted to say that I love the way that this is done. You have real talent, so thankyou for sharing with us.
