David stalks the giant
His hands are shaking hard
His groupies are all cheering
From beside the boulevard
He-s sure that death is nearing
The fans and critics know
But still he keeps on walking
He must complete the show
Mary sees her husband
And wonders what to say
Does she blame the gods above
For ending up this way?
Joseph looks disgusted
And Mary starts to cry
He tells her he won-t listen
To another pointless lie
Loving and lying
Fighting and crying
They-re all just the same
The young and the trying
The old and the dying
None will take the blame
David slays the giant, now
he sees it take the fall
he can-t hear all the laughing
and can-t see much at all
except the body of the monster
spreadeagled on the land
another harmless, good soul claimed
and more blood on his hands
Mary begs sweet Joseph
To give her another chance
He-s still a bit reluctant
After her virgin romance
They go back to his folks- place
And shame on him, they say
For letting just a woman
Think that there-s another way
Loving and lying
Fighting and crying
They-re all just the same
The young and the trying
The old and the dying
None will take the blame
David sits alone again
Imprisoned by his war
And Mary-s on her doorstep
Wishing life would give her more
But David-s still a hero
And Mary bears a son
They-re celebrated people
But their lives cannot be won
Loving and lying
Fighting and crying
They-re all just the same
The young and the trying
The old and the dying
None will take the blame
